Heard on the Street

Any unreasonable business tax hikes this year? I have heard as high as 60% year over year so far!
Senator Mike Jungbauer said he is willing to help and has information to back it up. His e-mail sen.mike.jungbauer@senate.mn

I think you should note links to other Ramsey info sites. These include [1] the City, [2] RamseyTownCenter, [3] RAMSEY3, [4] AnokaCountyWatchdog (where you can get a free tee shirt), and [5] my blog (in Blogger like this one) "Developers are Crabgrass"; respectively at:

http://www.ci.ramsey.mn.us/
http://www.ramseytowncenter.com/
http://www.ramsey3.org/
http://anokacountywatchdog.com/
http://zaetsch.blogspot.com/

Note, the RamseyTownCenter site may be frozen since Bruce Nedegaard died (and was served with involuntary bankruptcy papers days before his death). How that affects the promoter, Ramsey Town Center, LLC, and the vast open spaces around the new City Hall and Ramp are all things I am uncertain of, but I expect if you try asking officials at City Hall you may get some kind of answers.

Good luck there.

The Watchdog watches for error and waste, whether you agree or not with his views.

My blog publishes my views, along with news from time to time. Recently I posted notice and a link to a news report of the Nedegaard - bankruptcy situation.

I live in Ward 1, Ramsey, and have opinions. I share them via the web. I am not a member of the RBA, I am retired, not a businessperson. Their site and thoughts, and mine, are separate.

I believe it was good to get two fresh faces on council, last election.

The City site gives contact info for officials and for the mayor and each City councilmember. If you have a complaint you will learn how to route it there, and if you have praise, ditto.

The City has its documents online, but the Laserfiche access is a crude search device so if you want to find all instances of Planning Commission minutes mentioning, say, "Jerry Bauer" or "John Peterson," good luck navigating the shoals.

The City publishes at its homepage a listing of upcoming events.

Current issues of the "Ramsey Resident" are posted online at the City site.

The City's Charter, its equivalent of a governing "constitution," can be reached directly from the City homepage.

There are ways to become and stay informed. Some easier than others. RBA, via ramseyba.blogspot.com adds to that.

Good luck with the blog and with the entire RBA (and the ramseyba.com and ramseyba.blogspot.com twin sites). It's a good and helpful effort. Every voice helps. If listened to.

I know that DEED, Dept. of Employment and Economic Development is in a straddle.

They administer the UI program, everyone pays who's an employer and the pool has to be kept solvent when payouts are high or low. The other end of the office tries to attract employers, while the UI end is taxing them directly.

DEED also runs a business-with-China situation, similar to but DEED says independent of the Sister City effort former Ramsey city administrator James Norman participated in with former council member Todd Cook along on the same China junket. Earlier Mayor Gamec went to China at taxpayer expense.

What's to show from all that? Especially is there anything helpful to more business with the RBA members - most of whom appear to offer local services rather than international trade?

What's it been costing?

What is the situation with local business licensing fees?

You mention the State level but what's been the escalation, if any, in local fees and costs that RBA members are now facing?
